Goodbye to Romy
A few weeks ago, we had to say goodbye to our sweet kitty, Romy. He had developed pleural effusion (fluid outside of the lungs) which made it very difficult for him to breathe. Lap of Love came to our house to help us say goodbye. He was 15 years old.
Romy was a unique individual. He could be very lovey and also very solitary. He often walked toward us with his tail up and the end curled like a candy cane. When he sat nearby, that tail would curl around an arm to make sure we didn't stop petting him.
His purr was amazing. We could tell when he was hanging out with the other one of us even on the other side of the house because of that purr. He loved to get his back and belly rubbed and nosed in when his sister Cassie was getting brushed so he could be groomed, too.
He sometimes was anxious and many things could set him off in retreat. But he was quite inquisitive and enjoyed smelling the outdoors from many of the windows in our house. He even had a couple (unplanned) outdoor adventures, including sauntering out on the rare occasion the door was left ajar. He often engaged aggressively with a neighborhood cat who would taunt him through the window screen, so much so that he recently shoved through the screen and launched himself out after that cat. Two minutes later he responded to our call to come home.
He spent hours on the catio basking in the sun. He watched cat and bird videos attentively. He wrestled with brother Leo and groomed sister Cassie. He was loving and happy and playful and cozy and beautiful.
Of the four kittens we adopted in 2010, we still have Cassie and Leo. Romy was quite bonded with each of them. We are sure that they miss him - as do we.
Getting Updates
We will be posting update messages here. If you would like to be notified by email when we post an update and are not already on our mailing list, please email me at rickwiggins@me.com. I know that many of you already get too much email but I can assure you that I will only be sending updates a few (probably two) times per year. Of course you can unsubscribe at any time. I will not take offense if you unsubscribe. I unsubscribe from lists with a vengeance. And of course we can always stay in touch by phone, text, or email! My cell phone number and email address will appear on every message I send.
So if you would like to be notified about updates in the Radcliff-Wiggins household, just drop me an email!
